Freinds and I Spent the day Sunday at Central HRC and witness an extrodinary feet by a young pup with only 2 legs.
The pup that touched everyones heart was in started. A dog with just 2 legs "front" no back legs ran marks on land and water to get a pass. Someone told me the puppy lost his back legs after Dam walked on the puppy shortly after birth. He only had a small stomp rear end. Wish I had took pictures. The dog ran the marks with all it heart and quite some style to boot. They put a float around his belly when he ran the water so his rear end would float. It was very heart touching. You could have heard a pin drop while the pup ran. The applause afterward was very deserving. Goes to show how much a dog will give for it's master and some love.
Wow, I hope someone can get or did get some video!!!! How exciting and kudos to the family for sticking with this pup! What a great opportunity for the dog, its family and the people who have the pleasure of watching it. A great educational opportunity that goes way beyond retriever training...
Hey robert, I was the gunner at the started. My wife got a couple of pictures of him and I will try and get them posted. He has the heart of a giant...., Don't ask me how he manages to drag a 5 lbs mallard up the bank , through tall grass. He passed all events at the started, both days, pretty amazing seeing how there were 4 able bodied dogs that didn't pass...
This must have been "Dex" - his owner's have posted a few pictures and videos of him in training. Amazing little guy with an exceptionally devoted family. I would love to see Dex posing with his ribbons
And I'm sitting here depressed because I can't train my six month old pup for another 2-4 weeks due to a broken toe. I was hoping today (at his six week checkup since accident) that I would get the go-ahead to train. But the vet felt he needed another 2-4 weeks to heal. In the scheme of life, I'm sure it won't matter but it's killing me. Kudos to the two-legged pup and the owner on their accomplishment. Thanks for sharing.
I got to me Dex along with Curtiss and his wife this weekend. Dex was hanging around at the tailgate after Saturday run and he is a cutie. Such a personality. Really puts things in perspective. Dex is lucky to have such a great "family" and I am sure that he is bringing as much into their lives as they are his.
I was lucky enough to judge "Dex" this weekend. Truly an amazing animal. He has a little two wheeled "cart" that he used on Saturday's land test. On Sunday the grass was a little to tall for the wheels so he ran without it and did great.
He did not drag his hind side. He used his back and rump to maintain balance. He did run at a pretty impressive speed even with a duck in his mouth. I missed the water but saw him coming in from one mark with the little float on. I guess without the float he probably couldn't stay up right. Kinda like when a dog first learns to swim and doesn't go any were till he uses his back legs. Maybe someone else can fill us in on details. It sure caught a lot of peoples attention.
What a feel good post , great on the family for seeing past the physical disabilities and secondly what a dog, all heart. Would luv to see the video, can only imagine that you could hear a pin drop than the congratulatory applause afterwords, WOW!
