Perfect Example of Dishonest Media

Local story today in my county is that a local attorney is suing thee county over the county’s passing of an ordinance a couple of years ago banning firearms from county parks. The county has already had a suite brought against it about this and the county agreed to take the signs down. In Florida ONLY the State can make rules regarding firearms and no city, county or other entity can make their own. It is Florida law period.
Now I will give credit where it is due and say that our local paper got the story right and reported that Lee County has already agreed to take down the signs and that putting them up was a violation of State law in the first place. They even quoted the county attorney saying that the signs were being taken down and or changed (of course they have had two years to do this…).
Anyway, I go home for dinner this evening and the news is on. I hear a teaser saying “should guns be allowed in county parks, a local man sues the county for that right”. When they return and the story comes on it starts with a grandma sitting at a kiddy playground watching her two grandchildren who appear to be 4-5 years old. She is appalled when the reporter ask her if she has heard that someone is filing a lawsuit against the county for this “right”. Granma goes on to tell us how “that is just not right, one place guns do not belong is around our children”…..blah, blah, blah…. The story goes on to say that county officials will not comment on the lawsuit because they have not seen it. They never mention that the county has addressed the issue and agree they are in the wrong. The whole report continues to make it sound like this is some gun nut trying to carry a gun to the playground and harm our precious little children, NEVER in the entire story did they mention that what the county did IS AGAINST THE LAW. Instead they made it sound like the right wing gun wackos are out there threatening our children. Just freaking makes me sick. I was yelling at the television….freaking sorry azz spin crazed media at it again.

Just curious ... could the county put up a sign reminding visitors that it is against Florida law to carry firearms in the park? No ordinance, just putting up signs citing the state law.

It is NOT against the law in Florida to carry in parks. That is the problem. The county is trying to make a law that bans carry, but Florida Law specifically permits carry. To do what you suggest they would have to put up signs saying it is LEGAL to carry in our parks!

You know , I had a charlotte county deputy tell me the other night that it is against the law to carry in or on a public beach or county park. He said if I were fishing and standing in the water I could carry (because technically the water is state property), but I could not carry it across the beach to get to the water (because the beach is a county park). So really I would love to be able to tell a deputy that he is full of crap.?

FL Statute 790.06 (12):

No license issued pursuant to this section shall authorize any person to carry a concealed weapon or firearm into any place of nuisance as defined in s. 823.05; any police, sheriff, or highway patrol station; any detention facility, prison, or jail; any courthouse; any courtroom, except that nothing in this section would preclude a judge from carrying a concealed weapon or determining who will carry a concealed weapon in his or her courtroom; any polling place; any meeting of the governing body of a county, public school district, municipality, or special district; any meeting of the Legislature or a committee thereof; any school, college, or professional athletic event not related to firearms; any school administration building; any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, which portion of the establishment is primarily devoted to such purpose; any elementary or secondary school facility; any career center; any college or university facility unless the licensee is a registered student, employee, or faculty member of such college or university and the weapon is a stun gun or nonlethal electric weapon or device designed solely for defensive purposes and the weapon does not fire a dart or projectile; inside the passenger terminal and sterile area of any airport, provided that no person shall be prohibited from carrying any legal firearm into the terminal, which firearm is encased for shipment for purposes of checking such firearm as baggage to be lawfully transported on any aircraft; or any place where the carrying of firearms is prohibited by federal law. Any person who willfully violates any provision of this subsection commits a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.


Since county/city parks are NOT in this list of prohibited CC locations, you are good-to-go.

Not only that but even w/o a cwp you are allowed to open carry while engaged in or on the way to or from fishing or hunting. Charlotte county is next in line to be sued. It might not do you much good but should said deputy try and arrest you he and the county will end up in trouble. Let em know if you have any problems I have the number of someone who would love to defend something like this.
REMEMBER ONLY THE STATE CAN SET GUN LAWS IN FLORIDA.... Print a copy of the state laws and tell him to blow it out his ass

Pretty obvious you have illustrated the MAIN STREAM PRESS, regardless of the size of that particular TV station. It's rampant throughout the media...injecting their personal agendas into every piece of news. It will never end, because the reporters are all coming from the same socialistic education system that spews that form of liberalism.

That is why so many find Fox so disagreeable. They are used to hearing every news story with a liberal slant, and they just can't seperate a story reported as just news without the editorial agenda. Somehow that relates to being too conservative for their tastes.

The principle they live by is to never let an opportunity go by where the liberal side of the story is necessary to be the prime reason for reporting it.

Bill I agree with you. In this case I am not even sure it was totally the liberal agenda that drove this. If they reported the story, that the county was breaking the law and being suied for it and that they admit they are wrong and are working on changing it, there would only be a 1 min segment on the news or a short story in the paper. This way they get several days of play from it, viewer polls, web comments.....all about the money
