They are changing the terminology from “mentally retarded” to "an individual with an intellectual disability."

What is the need for such changes? If the term mentally retarded has some stigma associated with it, isn’t it just a matter of time until the new phrase reaches the same level of stigma?

The measure, passed by the House by voice vote Wednesday night, changes the phrase "mentally retarded" to "an individual with an intellectual disability" in existing health, education and labor law.

I guess I'm not really PC...When my wife puts on TLC and the 'Little People, Big World' show is on, I always groan and say, 'We aren't going to watch that midget show again, are we?'
