They are changing the terminology from “mentally retarded” to "an individual with an intellectual disability."
What is the need for such changes? If the term mentally retarded has some stigma associated with it, isn’t it just a matter of time until the new phrase reaches the same level of stigma?
Political correctness out of control.
The measure, passed by the House by voice vote Wednesday night, changes the phrase "mentally retarded" to "an individual with an intellectual disability" in existing health, education and labor law.
