You are far too quick to leave the scene as I recall..... didn't even come and get your cookies after the one test!

There were plenty of tests where they were begging us to take ducks so they didn't have to bury them. I don't care if they are mangled even--- all the better for training.

Those sure are some nice quality birds too. I was really impressed.

On the eastern end of Long Island here we pay $15.50/bird (duck or pheasant) plus a $50 delivery charge and $5/crate (5 birds per crate).

When my husband pickes them up for our club they then cost us $14.50/bird, no delivery fee, no crate fee as we use our clubs crates. I then band each one when I remove it from the crate and release them into a large chainlink enclosure with water tubs and food. The morning of each test/training event I box them up in the dark and load them into my duck truck. At the end of the day, whoever is still with us gets re-released into population till the next day. Whoever survives all the events lives their lives with us. For all this extra effort I don't charge anyone.

Dead birds for training sessions are $10/bird otherwise they are free for anyone who'd like some. The birds from our clubs FT's are the best birds and we use them for HRC so that we can keep costs down so that we may be able to hold HRC events.

I realize this is an old thread, but I will be out on LI this weekend and hoped to do a little training.

Katherine, may I ask where you get birds? Do they sell to individuals? I really only need a (dead) duck and a (dead) pheasant.
