How do you feel about this one? That seems a little too controlling to me. I know the military is not a democracy, but denying people news access? I don't like it.

Your'e a former military man, you know the UCMJ doesnt afford you all the rights that the regular citizens get...While in the military you play by their rules...correct or incorrect

Not sure what News access is being blocked. I can get to pretty much any news outlet still on my government computer. However I am in the Army and not the USAF. Personnaly I am not that worried about not being able to get to a site that is displaying the leaked documents. We were told not to look for or read them and that should be the end of it. They are still classified documents and should be treated as such. If you want to keep you security clearance and understand the paperwork including non-disclosure and safegarding of information that you signed in the first place it isn't that hard of a concept to understand. Even though they may not be TS there is a Need to Know at every level. If your job didn't already grant you access to them then you don't need to know.

I am all for transparency when it applies, but this wasn't whistleblowing for fraud, unsafe practices, etc. This was disclosure of sensitive information that has relative bearing on National policy and I think anyone involved with the disclosure should be held accountable.

I understand that completely, but that just seems a little too intrusive, an also ineffectual. I mean the best way to get someone to do something, is tell them they can't do it. Slippery slope.

In the army, I was never told who I should vote for. We were never told what we could or could not see on the internet (except porn), and that caused a ruckus amongst some guys, to the point of seeking our company lawyer!

Nothing new for the Military. Shielding information has become a way of life with them. They learned their lessons well in Viet Nam. Can't let the truth be heard. Causes morale problems.

This is not something new for the military, for awhile they banned Fox news. THis was long before wikileaks. They would ban anything against the current views. So some weeks it was nbc, the next it was fox. They eventually caved after realizing blocking 1 but not the other was not ok to do.

What?? Do you have a source? I'm not calling a bluff, but I'm interested to read more about this. I never heard anything of the sort, recently, or during my active duty years.

The worst limitation I had placed on me was having to drink NA brews in Saudi Arabia!

Oh, and when the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders visited out post, they had to comply with dress code. No pom-poms. Double!!!
