Ill. court: Emanuel's name can stay on ballot

Illinois' highest court issued a stay Tuesday of an appeals court's decision that former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel could not run to be mayor of Chicago, directing the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners to restore his name to the ballot.
The decision appears to be a strong indication that state's supreme court will accept the case.
Lawyers for Emanuel asked the Illinois Supreme Court earlier Tuesday to overturn the appeals court's decision, calling that decision "squarely inconsistent" with previous rulings on the state's election law.

None in my mind, he deserved to be on the ballot all along.

No indication of which way the Ill Supreme Ct. will land. They simply told the Chicago Bd of Elections not to print the ballots absent Emmanual's name. If the Bd of Elections hadn't said their deadline to begin printing were today, this rulling wouldn't have occurred.

The Bd of Elections has two choices....print the ballots with his name and risk a huge issue if he's banned by the Court from running or not print the ballots for a day or two. Since absentee voting starts Sunday, I think it is, they are in a real pickle.
