U.N. resolution draft alleges there may have been 'crimes against humanity'
WASHINGTON — The White House announced sweeping new sanctions on Libya's government and suspended operations at its embassy in Tripoli on Friday, as a final flight carrying American citizens departed from the war-ravaged capital.
The Obama administration announced that it apply unilateral sanctions against the regime of Moammar Gadhafi. White House spokesman Jay Carney said the government was working with international allies at the United Nations on other pressure to ease violence that erupted in recent days.
The text, drafted by France and Britain and circulated to members of the U.N. Security Council on Friday, also called for an arms embargo against Libya as well as travel bans and asset freezes for the country's top leaders. The six-page draft was obtained by Reuters.

A vote on the draft resolution, which will be amended during closed-door negotiations, was not expected on Friday, council diplomats told Reuters.
Under Secretary of State for Management Patrick Kennedy said the U.S. made the decision to suspend operations at the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli on Thursday but waited to announce that until all American citizens had been evacuated.
Looks like President Obama wanted to get the American people out of Libya before he decided to propose sanctions against Libya. Which is an answer to you righties why President Obama has not acted. He was looking after the safety of the American people that were stuck in Libya with no way out.
Looks like the U.N. may take action against Gadhafi also.
