Default How much $$$ for sending a dog by plane.

    Hello,

I'm thinking sending one of my bitch by plane to get breed.
I leave in Montréal but can drive to Burlington airport to save $$$$.

Does anyone can tell me witch company should i use and what is the estimate cost of a 2 ways flight?

I have breed my bitch 4 months ago by FC AFC Land Ahoy , and Gary Zellner was SUPER cooperative by sending frozen semen and signed the papers..........

I'm trying to find out the cost the benefit and desavantage of the 2 options, frozen semen and natural breeding.

    Thanks all.

The stress of the flight can cause her to go out of heat. Most people I know won't fly a bitch in heat because there are to many things that can go wrong. If you do decide to fly her I would check with Alaska airlines first. When I ship puppies they are the cheapest but if you are shipping to the Midwest you'll have to use someone else. If I'm shipping to the midwest I use Continental.

I just flew Kona up from Tampa to Cleveland and it was $350 on Continental. They weigh the dog and crate together. Once you hit 100 pounds it goes up to over $400.

    Alain;
Last year I shipped some pups into Buffalo, NY and drove them across the border and home.( I live NE of Toronto.) The cost was about $280.00 (US) for the flight.
These were puppies, your bitch, as an adult dog would cost more.
I used and recommend Delta airlines. A simple google search will give you a phone # to call and get specific information.
    Hope this helps.

I have heard great stuff about Delta. I know nothing about shipping a female in heat though.

    Here are the rates:

Here are the requirements and restrictions:

    Hi all,

    Thank's for your input.
I should plan a $600.00 to $800.00 budget to send my bitch.

What people usually do for a long distance? Send the bitch in heat or ask for frozen semen?

A lot of people use fresh chilled semen. I've never done it so I don't know the details.

Contact whoever you plan to use and they could tell you. It saves shipping the dog.

A lot of people prefer the "old fashioned way" though.

I haven't shipped for a long time, but when I did, they all got bred, if they weren't sent home early. Now we have progesterones. I've asked several long time breeders, and their feelings were if the female went out of heat because of an airline trip, she may have not had a strong heat in the first place and maybe wouldn't get bred at home. I personally have not had that good of luck with chilled semen and prefer natural ties so I would still ship or drive if I had a breeding I really wanted. Many of the people I know feel the same way. It just depends on your luck.

Delta is at the bottom of the list for most that do any amount of shipping both for their service and the cost.
