Maybe you should let you elected officials from CT know how you feel. I would wager that they get some of that 4 Bil back from oil lobbyists along with most of the other elected official from around the country. That's why they want to keep earmarks...so they can get their dirty paws on the money. This is a problem in every industry, not just oil.

you may need to read a little closer. the article deals with more than subsidies. i referenced it so that others could see what form these subsidies take. you are referring to the portion of the article that talks about taxes on oil products, which has nothing to do with oil production. these taxes are imposed on the retail product. the federal and state government collect them.

i hardly think any of this is a joke.

and i sure as hell don't think a company like EXXON, SHELL, MOBIL, etc. need or deserve subsidies in the form of tax breaks.-Paul

Are you saying that the government writes a check to the oil companies to the tune of 4 billion dollars? If not are you saying that it is 4 billion dollars less that they tax the oil companies? If this is the case then SINCE WHEN WAS IT OUR DOLLARS IN THE FIRST PLACE!

As a small business owner, I wish I could get taxed at the same rates that Big Oil does. The last couple years would have been A LOT easier. By in large, where does the government go to get most of their new tax dollars? Small businesses.

I also was a small business owner and you have never heard me say anything but the best of things about small business. They take the risks and they usually only have their own money to invest and if they borrow, everything they own stands for the debt. I am full well of the taxes and regulations they endure.
Take Obamacare forinstance. they have already given over 120 waivers from the regulations for health insurance to individual companies. Most of those were to mitigate his mistatement "If you have health insurance, you can keep your health insurance." McDonalds was to make public this completely false statement. I'm sure you don't expect to get the same waiver if need to let your employees keep their insurance. The subsities these people talk about are in fact less taxes. I believe in much less government and much less income redistribution. What liberals call a regressive tax, I call an enlightened tax. Some here have called it a consumption tax. That is if you consume it then you pay tax on it. The worst thing that ever happened to this country was the creation of the income tax. Without it you have no deductions and do not have 70,000 pages of tax law. A consumption tax would be open for all to see. If you thought it too much then you could vote the pols out of office. The system as you know has hidden taxes everywhere. I've said enough but please don't get the wrong impression of where I stand especially about small business.

I believe in less government and less income distribution also. In fact, one of my favorite lines is, "What are you doing with MY money?!" But why should the burden be put on the largest employer in the country (small business)? We need to remove barriers for small businesses not create them. Look at what Carter did (jacka$$). If you were a legal alien and you wanted to start a small business in America, you didn't pay corporate tax for FIVE years. Now you tell me, why would you want to give only foreigners (I am holding my tongue on what I really want to call them) a tax break instead of your own flesh and blood. THAT'S the definition of Un-American.

My Father in 1977 could have used that tax break. In 2009, when I bought the company, I could have used a tax break. The guy down the street has a gas station that is cycled through his family so they don't have to pay taxes. I cannot do that simply because I was born here and they weren't.

However, since all the major oil companies have most of thier prefered stock owned by the Saudis, they have taken these franchises away from the folks that built them and have given preference to Muslims in the U S A.

I'd rather buy my gas at a Citgo where I can get it without the damaging Ethanol or subsidizing terror.

Citgo is a U.S. refining and marketing firm that is a wholly owned subsidiary of Venezuela's state-owned oil company. Venezuela isn't exactly a friend of the U.S.
