Dems Playing Thier Ace In The Hole
Y'all have probably read where Sen Reid is calling on the Republicans to give up Oil and Gas subsidies as part of the Debt Ceiling talks. Though it will put many of the small independents out of business, if the Repubs fight this cut they lose credibility.
If they can cede this issue, which they really have no choice with gas at $4. and insist that Solar, Wind and Ethanol be added to the cuts, I would say the American people win.
The cuts do need to go into the trillions and entire departments and agencies need to be eliminate. I hate to think of how the unions would react to massive layoff of the buracracy? But cuts in the size of the Federal Government is long overdue!
I don't blame you. I blame bad policy. I blame the interventionists. I blame the neoconservatives who preach this stuff, who believe in it like a religion -- that they have to promote American goodness even if you have to bomb and kill people. In short, I donít blame America; I blame neocons." ó Ron Paul
Wait, wait, wait...
Here is the cognitive dissonance. Removing "subsidies" does squat to reduce price to the consumer. The dems are throwing a lot of dust in the air. Prices are high, folks are looking for a villain, it's easy for the dems to say... "Hey, let's you and him fight."
Conservatives don't have to play that game. Just keep coming back again and again to explain how restricting supply (active drilling) and increased taxes equals higher prices. Duh!
Remove subsidies? Go ahead. Vent your spleen and smack those old nasty oil corporations. Whatever floats your boat. But don't pretend you'll reduce the price of a gallon of gas.
Petroleum industry subsidies have been reduced by 50% over the last 10 years, alternative fuels (wind, solar) subsidies have increased by over 100% in the last ten years.
You could look it up.
I posted on another thread about a friend on mine putting in the largest solar system in middle Tennessee on his business, COST OVER 2/3 AT TAXPAYER EXPENSE. He is laughing all the way to the bank. It has essentially locked in the price of the electricity for his business for the next 30 years. Everybody elses's electrical cost goes up and his stays the same- GOOD SYSTEM don't yo liberals think?
