    Default yellow and chocolate breeding

Is it okay to breed a chocolate female with a a yellow male? Color issues or anything?

What are you hoping to get?

No color in particular, just like the male lab and he has a good background. Relatively new to this and had heard that it wasn't a desirable thing to breed a yellow to a chocolate. You know how you hear stuff.

If the chocolate is yellow factored, you could get "dudleys" which basically means a yellow dog without the black pigment that the AKC standard calls for.

Other than that, if you like both dogs and think they would be a good match, there are no issues.

Chance are good (unless the chocolate is yellow factored and/or the yellow is chocolate factored) you will get all black puppies.

The chocolate is yellow factored. Like you said I like the pairing, don't care if they are brindles-Just kidding.

More important than the colors are the health clearances.

Actually if the chocolate is yellow factored you will get yellow and black, no dudleys unless the yellow herself is a dudley or chocolate factored.

    Chocolate x Yellow = Black
Chocolate (yellow factored) x Yellow = Yellow and Black
Chocolate x Yellow (chocolate factored) = Black and Chocolate
Chocolate (yellow factored) x Yellow (chocolate factored) = Yellow, Dudley, Chocolate, Black.
    Chocolate x Dudley = Chocolate
Chocolate (yellow factored) x Dudley = Dudley and Chocolate.

But like someone else said, most important are the health clearances!!
Also, like WRL mentioned, I believe the only reason some find it undesirable is because the 2 can produce Dudley's depending on the color genes.

I used the search function for once! Lol. I gal I was chatting with in line at the grocery store noticed my CBR sweatshirt and asked if I had them. Yup, I do. She says I must be a hunter. Yup, I do alot. She was talking a lot and started on about her Dudley. It didn't register at the time this was not what she'd named her dog. I get checked out and head to the lot and she's putting her cart away as I'm walking out and she asks if I'd like to see her Dudley. Sure, why not?

I stop at her SUV and I instantly realize "Dudley" is not the dogs name yet, what it is... It had to have been the worst looking yellow lab I've ever seen. It's face was nearly pig skin pink and the eyes looked weird. So, I try to give the dog a pat on the head to appease the lady and get away without much more chat on her dear Dudley.

my question, are the Dudley's that lightly pigmented all the time or would that description be on the extreme side?
