Default The Rise of the Plutocrats

More and more cash is being funneled into political campaigns by sources that go to great lengths to hide their identity. I suspect the Romney campaign won't be the last to be the recipient of this kind of shenanigan. The upshot is the ordinary citizen is marginalized. The country is becoming more of a plutocracy. Who are the pols going to listen to --you and me, or the clink of campaign cash?

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44011308...decision_2012/

    In brief the story says:
A mystery company that pumped $1 million into a political committee backing Mitt Romney has been dissolved just months after it was formed, leaving few clues as to who was behind one of the biggest contributions yet of the 2012 presidential campaign.

The existence of the million-dollar donation — as gleaned from campaign and corporate records obtained by NBC News — provides a vivid example of how secret campaign cash is being funneled in ever more circuitous ways into the political system.

The company, W Spann LLC, was formed in March by a Boston lawyer who specializes in estate tax planning for “high net worth individuals,” according to corporate records and the lawyer’s bio on her firm’s website.

The corporate records provide no information about the owner of the firm, its address or its type of business.

I guess all the money funneled into Bill Clintons campaign by the Chinese government wasn't the first either. I guess all the money funneled to obama by George Soros wasn't nearly the first or second either.

I guess if you really cared, you would have sounded a similar warning when left wing radical politicians do the same thing.

we have to look no further than to blame the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform law, it has done just the opposite of what was intended, it has spurned the PAC which gives cover to deep pocketed donors

From what little I read about them in the lawsuit against the FEC, they are no better than any other front, just because they are conservative based doesnt make it right..McCain-Feingold was a bad law, it sounded good but gave slick smart politicians or really their backers ways to divert funds..it did very little to reform finance laws, look how many PAC's were formed because of it

I think it's horrible. Only unions and liberal 527s funded anonymously should be able to dominate the campaign finance process! http://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/list.php

Exactamundo. Without McCain-Feingold we'd have no 527 groups. IMO, 527 groups (on both sides of the aisle) are responsible for much of the animosity and nastiness that permeates politics today. It used to be that politicians were responsible for the negative ads they ran and we could judge them accordingly. Now, these 527s, who are beholden to no one, are free to say whatever scurrilous lie they want. The candidate it benefits can shed crocodile tears and disavow any responsibility for the ad, but in the end they're helped by the negativity yet get to keep their hands clean.

I didn't do it because I was not active on this board at that time. Right wing, left wing--I don't care. Big money from plutocrats is bad news.

How about a limit on the number of lawyers in Congress? The profession makes a living on who makes the best arguement. The game with them is scoring debate points and not reaching a deal. This just intensifies the acrimony in Washington.
