Well, Zeus, I have to say that I have to at least partially agree with Pete here. Voting for what is in your best interest, unless you are certain that what is in your best interest is also on the nation's best interest, is indeed somewhat self centered and at least somewhat responsible for the situation in which we now find ourselves.
Any doctrine that weakens personal responsibility for judgment and for action helps create the attitudes that welcome and support the totalitarian state.
