Default What does Alabama mean by "concealed" carry?

Does a weapon in my vehicle or in my hotel room require a concealed carry permit in the state of AL? (NV and AL do not recognize each other's CCW's according to USA Carry.) So, if I don't have a weapon on my person... can I be otherwise in possession of one?

(Puh-leeze someone tell me that AL is not as crazy as CA. At least I know in CA how to lock up the gun and the ammo in separate boxes in order to be legal.)

And when will we get consistent nationwide reciprocity for crying out loud? It's so byzantine. God bless the principle of Federalism and all... but when you can inadvertently end up on the clink for crossing a state line... maybe it's time to rethink this.

Guess they don't have the "hotel" clause thrown in somewhere that some states do?

I have news for you. When I made a call to NH State police and asked about bringing my shotgun into the state, I was asked if I had a concealed carry permit. I asked how do you conceal and carry a shotgun. I was informed that I needed a concealed carry permit if I was going to transport a shotgun in a case. Otherwise it had to be out of its case and I believe she said in view. When I talked to a target shooter in NH, she said that's right, she had to get one.

The lesson---understand all gun laws in a state before you go in there and be very careful.

I think you get a ticket in Alabama if you don't carry a gun.

Put a gun rack across the back window of your truck and proudly display your firearms! Carry it into the hotel over your shoulder (I am sure that there will be many examples of the "proper" positioning going in and out for you to observe), just make sure that you put some bling on that thing. A little Beadazzler should work on the stock!

This is the current status of the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2012, everyone should write their Senator and urge them to pass this bill.

Hate to break it to you...NV is the crazy state. Look at the list of reciprocal states. AL is actually in the process right now of passing open carry.

There is a simple workaround that we do for CCW permits and that is to attend a "double class", at the same time, that covers NV and UT. Once completed, you are good to go in all 32 or so CCW states. This crazy state also allows me to carry a loaded shotgun or rifle in my front seat as long as there isn't one loaded in the receiver. How many of the "sane" states allow that?

The list of Reciprocity States on the back of my AL Pistol permit: (notice no mention of shotguns or rifles here or in the above referenced gun laws)
    Alaska
    Arizona
    Arkansas
    Colorado
    Florida
    Georgia
    Idaho
    Iowa
    Indiana
    kentucky
    Louisiana
    Michigan
    Mississippi
    Missouri
    New Hampshire
    North Carolina
    North Dakota
    Oklahoma
    South Dakota
    Tennessee
    Texas
    Utah
    Vermont
    Wyoming

My permit was last issued in Nov of 2011, so if there have been any states added this year, that's why they are not on this list.
