Well i just thought i would let you guys know that we did not pass. We did great on the land marks but he refused to get the water marks even after he swam almost all the way out to them. I dont know what happened. He is usually really great and i have never had any problems with im in the water before. I guess it is going to take some more work. I have until feb to get him ready for the next test and i hope by then he is doing great.

Sorry about not passing, but dogs are dogs and you never know which one comes out of the truck. Don't let it get you down. Just keep working at it and join a local club and train with a group. That will make all the difference.

Sorry about you not passing but you learned a valuable lesson. "A DOG IS A DOG IS A DOG" I like to tease the folks running under me in AKC that a $2.00 can of BLACK spray paint will improve a choco dawgs IQ by 50 points......LOL. The game should be FUN and a pass or fail is not a life or death situation. Did I mention HAVE FUN this game is intended to be fun. You might as well have fun as for sure your dog will.

Sorry to hear that. Yep a dog is a dog. Me and my dog failed a season test so bad one time that I was so embarrassed that I walked off the line offering to sell him for $10. He's now a hrch, etc. Had toearn to keep my temper in check and that there's always next time. Good luck and keep trying

Sorry to hear that you didn't pass.

I was going to ask when you hadn't posted after the test, but I kind of figured what had happened. Don't worry, Peyton and I failed out on our first three test, the first she never even made it to the first bird. We then went 4 for 4 after learning what to prepare for. Just keep up the training and hunting and by February, you will see a huge difference in the confidence both of you have in each other. Four months is a l-o-n-g time in a young retrievers life.

    Good Luck,

Your training needs to come out of the comfort zone, a known location where all your training has occurred, and expose your dog to different elements found at a hunt test. Training with a hunt test training group will allow you to work your OB and line manners in a venue that allows training and correction. Also its a great time for a live flyer for a young dog. Once at a hunt test you will be limited in what you can teach.

I always find areas to improve from a hunt test. You can expect that all the way into Master or Finished. You will even find no matter how hard you try, the training group enviroment will never emulate a real hunt test. As long as your dog has been on a live bird and with real birds, go to the hunt test and expect to come out of there with two to three things to work on before the next test.
