My dogs have always been house dogs. Until they are very trustworthy, they stay in a kennel inside while no one is home. After that, they have full run of the house 24/7. And they all sleep in the bed. Except Crash, he never slept.

If my retrievers were in the house only, I'd have to find another place to spend my time on the net!

Lord knows my dawgs don't spend enough time outdoors lately - neither do I!

My situation is just like Shayne's except my dog sleeps in his own bed. He has just recently graduated to the run of the house stage. So far, so good but any lapse will put him back in his kennel.

My 4 dogs are in the house. When I'm at work they are all crated. It's not that I don't trust each one individually, but in a group, no thanks!! They all sleep in the bedroom with me too. Lucy sleeps on the floor(her choice) on a dog bed, the other 3 are on the bed with me. The 2 "pet dogs" at the foot of the bed, Briezy up by my pillow.

I have a fenced in yard for them to go outside. They spend more time outside when the weather is nice and I'm home. But why take a nap outside in the grass when you can nap on the couch??!!

Two, CBR and Red Setter, I keep outside only.

One, CBR, outside most of the time.

One, Lab, in the house most of the time.

Don't know if I'll ever have another dog in the house all the time unless its a lab, LOL.

Max spends work days in his 6 X 12 run with the external 2 room insulated dog house. There is a bed of shavings in there for warmth. In the summer part of it is shaded by a tree and I put a UV cover over the top of the run. Only the most inclement (cold, sub zero) days will he be in the house during the day. When he is in the house, he has the run of it. The crate I was using in the house is no longer used. Primarily, at night he sleeps in the living room on his bed, the runner by the door or on the carpet or in the spare room next to the decoy bag on the carpet. He actually roams a little at night and will sleep pretty much anywhere.

We spend an hour in the field every morning. I drop her of at the house on the way to work. She naps for an hour or two in the house before my dad picks her up for her three mile walk along the creek. Then it is to the coffee shops or back to grampa's house until dinner, when I pick her up. This is every day. She has it pretty good.

Outside in 6x12 kennel when we're not home and at night except when it gets really cold and in the house when we are home and awake. No run of the house. They have thier place. They each get quality time with dad in his lazyboy but only when invited.
I don't feel it's fair to keep the dog in a nice warm house all the time and then expect them to break ice in the marsh on a duck hunt.
