There are employers that hire all employees as part-time so they don't have to offer benefits. Cabela's is one that I know of personally. People work 50 to 60 hours, get overtime pay, but no benefits nor vacation. Been happening for years.

and the healthcare that you so vigorously defend costs employers so much they are kicking people out of their benefits plan (Sears DID provide healthcare insurance yet now will NOT provide it)..... soon, large employers, will be scheduling all workers as part time employees in order to circumvent the healthcare system. It is a crazy world we live in when a corporation would rather pay a fine, and pay their employees cash, than pay for healthcare insurance.

The reason they do that, like the casinos do here is because once you make them full time, you are forced to give them hours to keep their full time status, even if the business doesnt warrant it...Cabelas is seasonal, makes no sense to keep their staff at full time status during the doldrums of summer....it cost employers more money to put employees on insurance plans one month, have them drop off after a couple of months, then reinstate them again
I see this all the time where I work...people start believing that they are "guaranteed" 40 hour work weeks and they will milk the clock to get "their hours" even though we are clearly on 32 hour work weeks..so in essence they are stealing hours from the employer..We have many on staff that know how to time their work and will slow down and go through the motions but lo and behold they sure know when the shift is up and its time to go home
