Any tips for throwing big Dokkens with a Zinger?

I took the plunge and bought a couple of mini Zingers. They arrived last week and I've been trying them out. I cannot consistently get them to sling a mallard or a pheasant Dokken without the Dokken hitting the Zinger frame. It seems like the pheasant Dokken, with its long plastic tail would be the toughest, but weirdly, yesterday I was having no trouble with the pheasant, while I couldn't get a single good toss with the mallard. Today, I couldn't get either one to work. I must have been doing something right with the pheasant yesterday, but I can't figure out what that was.

I'm usually putting them in the pouch with the wooden head dangling off the back of the pouch, but I've also tried the reverse, since that didn't seem to be working. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

On a more successful note (sort of) I loaded a frozen pigeon in one of the Zingers and attached the rubbers to the lowest hooks. Not such a great idea in a yard full of trees. Mr pigeon sailed up higher than the trees in the yard (which are about 30 ft) and came down through a birch about 30 yards away. I eventually found Mr pigeon, minus his head, which I figured was in the birch tree somewhere, but Maple located it right away when I was bringing her out for a trial run.

I've been tucking the rope. In fact, I tied it to a leg. The head doesn't have enough of a rope neck to tuck. Do you just try to stuff the head into the pouch?

yes or cut the head off. I really don't like the heads on the Dokkens anyways.

Tuck head and place in zinger so the bird is flat but head and tail lay vertically. Not horizonally.

Try taking a knife and cutting a Dokken head string off. Just remove the head. Just try it with one and see what you think.

I personally prefer dokkens with just the throw rope, a wooden macrame bead tied on the end, (you can get them for a few cents each at a hobby lobby) and no head!

There must be a slight variance on the length of the string, my mallard head tucks in o.k. We usually tuck the head and string, putting the bird in head side towards the ground, haven't had any problems. Not crazy about the dangling heads anyway, but never thought to cut them off. Might have to try that, and the macrame bead too

I routinely toss the larger dokkens out of two original Zingers and one mini-zinger. I tuck in the head and tail, often wrap the rope and thrower bead around a leg. But the trick for me has been to load them in a horizontal position rather than vertical. If loaded up/down the bird hits the frame as it is released. If I load left/right, no problem.
