Help With Frozen Ducks

I force on birds, dokken, etc, a little earlier than Evan. After ff, walking fetch, stick fetch and simple casting. But I don't force until I play with them with birds extensively and understand they are really birdy and get them to retrieving birds.

Yes you should introduce your dog to flapping wings such as wing clipped pigeons.

You should use ducks a lot in your retrieving.

I am following Fowl Dawgs and it doesn't show him using ducks with force fetch. But it is getting close to duck season so I figured I needed to be working with some birds. I haven't seen him using any ducks or birds in training on the videos execpt at the very beginning of the video and he used clipped wing pigeons on the puppies but nothing else during the video so far.

Just wait till pup gets soft bird with blood. If you having this problem you are going to create a lot more when you take it hunting with fresh killed birds.

What I like to do to turn my dogs onto feathers is to tie a 6 foot string to a wing or bird and basically play keep away from the chasing dog. He chases it and you try to keep it away. If he catches it, stop pulling and request a "drop it". When he drops it in your hand, the game continues. You can do this standing still or by running around while you and your dog get exercise and learn that feathers and birds are a blast! Once you have them chasing and dying to have more, then start working. This may not be a standard procedure, but I have never found a dog that didn't want to play with feathers after playing this game.
