Dog biting game and not bumpers

I have run into a problem with my 2 year old labrador who has started biting game. She swoops the birds up very fast then appears to take a better grip once but this appears to be where she bites it damaging the ribs. She doesnt appear to do it on frozen game and never makes a mark on a bumper or any other object.

This is common with alot of dogs but can be remedied by reenforcing the hold command when they start to chomp on the bird swat their bottom jaw and say hold it might take a few times but with consistency it can be broken

Frozen Game could be part of your problem. Let those birds thaw out some before using 'em if that's what you're doing. They're rock hard, and you're not going to see any damage, and pup doesn't learn to only use just enough pressure to HOLD and carry.

Agree with re-visiting HOLD.
