Dog Vest Fit?

I just received my dog's Avery Boater's Dog Parka which I ordered based on the measurement instructions. It seems to fit on the neck end, but I think it might be a little snug toward the bottom of the ribcage. I'm a little concerned it might inhibit his breathing (ribcage expansion) when he's working and breathing hard. How snugly should a vest fit? Should it be snug, tight, loose???

A loose snug, its also made to trim if needed. If you do trim, dont cut past the last cross stitch on the seams.

When I ordered my Avery vest last year it was snug on my blf,and I was also concerned about this .I kept a close eye on her while hunting and she seemed to be fine .I can just get my hand in between the dog and vest ,which I am now satisfied with as after 2 seasons she shows no problems with it and while being snug also helps keep her dry under the vest ,which in turn keeps her core temp up when extremely cold out.(and is also a good place to warm your hands when hunting is slow

If the vest is to loose it concerns me that they might get hung up in sticks/brush while in the water which would be way worse IMO.

We had a good week with 3 days of 3 man limits and my dog retrieving all the birds and back at the boat ramp when we take the vest off she is bone dry under it.

I also have a Cabelas vest which uses only Velcro so it has a little adjustment if desired.

It a small for my Boykin. His measurements matched up to the small size. Got it from Mack's.
