Today is a sad day for my wife and I as we've had to say goodbye to my good boy Trek
Trek was my first competitive dog and I had my eyes opened on how well trained dogs could do the most amazing things. Early in 1999 I was in the market for a puppy and met Kate Linehan at a hunt test in Northern Colorado. She had one male puppy left from a breeding from her FT stud, Calypso Kazoom Kazaam, that she wanted to go to a local. She saw something in him and knew he had potential. I interviewed with her and I was happy to be matched with him at that point. He was a good dog right from the start. No whining, no chewing and always a happy boy. Once we got into serious training, I took lessons with Cherylon Loveland, who expects very high standards to which we attempted to achieve. We worked very hard through the basics and transition, then beyond. I was a very inexperienced handler and was advised to rise through the hunt test circuit, JH-SH-MH, to gain experience and also have some success. I needed one leg for a JH title and entered a double JH stake in KS and Kate mentioned to me you might as well enter the SH because if you pass the first JH, you can run the SH. Why not especially after a 9 hr drive. Well we passed both JH's and the SH stake that weekend and received a title ribbon as well. That just made the drive home fantastic We then achieved a Master Hunter title. We qualified for the 2003 MN and I put Trek with Cherylon the month before I left. She always brought out the best in him and he looked spectacular. We passed the 2003 Master National and I was quite excited to do so. After that we started running Field trials and we were able to get a second in the FCRC qualifying to become QAA. We did run major stakes but due to my inexperience we got close sometimes but never finished. I couldn't have asked for a better dog to start with. He was tough, focused and very forgiving. Not bad for my first dog, MH, Master National Pass, QAA. I'm going to miss my boy, his precocious attitude and a nose always poking in the wrong places. Every flyer is yours Trek and you don't have to give any back. Wait for me on the other side, I miss you already.
