FF fakeout

I have been going through force with my pup using TRT. He has done rather well I assume since he is only the second dog that I have force fetched. I have him on a table right now and will be moving to the ground in a few days. My question is that yesterday he went to pick up the roller off the table and as I should released the ear pinch when his mouth was on the roller. Instead of picking it up off the table he just kept his mouth on the roller. I pulled him up to the sit position and tried it again with a lil more pressure in which he promptly picked it up? I am wary that he will try again when we go to the ground. Is there another approach or do as I did last time and increase the pressure?

testing you he is.
like when you were a kid and had to be home at dark.
you would try ten minutes late, then 15, then your Grandmother would grab you by the ear.

After FF and as you do walking fetch, you will most likely need to 'remind' him with an ear pinch when he doesnt fetch promptly upon command. Of course after CC to fetch, then you can give a nick.
I agree that more pressure was correct, given its gradual and not a 0-60 approach.

Like Ken said ...you will have many more testings ahead ....just stay calm and reinforce the command the next time and show him you are all business....Steve S

Well Ken you were right. Worked on the ground today and he did well til I put the bumper on the ground in front of him. First time was good but the second time, same pressure as first, he tried to rollover and bite me. No biggie, as I had ahold of his collar just picked him up to a sit position and shoved the bumper in his mouth. Tried again and he did it but tried to roll over on the one after. I know it is hard to tell without being there, but am I doing something wrong? I really don't want to mess him up as I have some pretty high hopes with him since he shows so much desire and drive.

He doesn't understand what you want yet. This is a new situation for him. Be patient and keep on training. He'll get it.

This behavior is basic avoidance...As Howard said " be patient" it will come ...mix in few with the bumper on your foot or part way to the floor...get some success and go back to the floor...The dog doesn't clearly understand what you are wanting in this situation...Steve S

I mixed it up today as we started on the ground and he did rather well with the bumper but then I swapped it out for a wood training buck. He didn't really understand very well so we went back to the table and did a few mid air then on the table. I ended him with success and let him absorb his success for a bit with alot of praise. I am hoping to get him to walking fetch this weekend, but depends on how he does tomorrow.

I would spend a little more time on the table. If you are having to pinch his ear all the way to the bumper you are probably not done on the table. Before leaving the table I try to get them to sit at one end, put the bumper at the other end, pinch the ear, say fetch and the dog go to the other end and pick up the bumper. When I say the other end I am only talking a few feet. See video of Hank (by Pirate) doing ff on the table.
But as Howard told me, when you go to walking fetch, he will decide that it is not fun anymore and start giving you refusuals. Then you will have to force you way thru this period. Shouldn't take but one or two sessions.
