Very good post. I have always "worried" about those people who can not look around and learn by the failures of others and have to repeat those mistakes. It's like "we have to keep up with the Jones" no matter where they are going. Somewhere along the way their mind takes a wrong turn.

Unfortunately the 285 (the dairy expansion noted the additon of about 10 jobs) new jobs will not offset the 650 jobs lost due to the closing of the nuclear plant. Not sure that customer service jobs will have similar wages to the jobs lost in energy.

Guess we need more cheese, but not more energy production?

Interestingly, the dairy expansion is part of a Canada-based cooperative.

Speaking of Wisconsin jobs. I have a friend who is a mechanical engineer at Caterpillar. He tells me that if anyone knows a certified welder, let them know that they are begging them to come work there for six figures.

Also, I'm curious what the nuk has to do with this discussion. The company got licensed to keep the plant operating and then immediately went looking for buyers because it's not economical to use nuks for generation with the price of nat gas. If you do look at generation economics, nuclear pretty much turns out to be the most expensive, and it isn't just the regulations. Fuel is expensive...

Same here! With less than 4% unemployment locally, it is difficult to find skilled workers. In fact, at the request of several large oil and gas companies we are using 17 company owned radio stations in east Texas to promote and host an Oil & Gas Job Fair at the Oil Center here in town. As a hook, they have hired some well know Country Music star to perform at the event to help attract potential workers. Just don't ask me who that Country Music star is because I only know George's, Garth's and Dwight's music.

Simply to note the net loss of jobs, which happened to be mentioned in the article on the dairy.

At some point wasn't nuk-generation a viable energy source? If not, why did we build those plants? Not trying to be a smarta$$; just asking if that was another govt idea that didn't work out.

I recall reading somewhere that welders were also in short supply for pipeline construction. The smart youngsters will forget a Bachelor's degree and go to welding school Had a neighbor who was a welder, and he always made a good living working on expensive machinery. Auto mechanics also can make some good wages. The computers can't do all the diagnosing; especially when it's the computer that breaks!

Kinda reminds you of the GOP doesn't it. They lose/fail and continue doing the same stuff over and over again and expecting a different result. That my friends is insanity. Makes perfect sense to me. Why try and come up with a grand bargain if you're a Democrat? Let the tax cuts expire and the spending cuts go into effect. Then come back with a new congress and pass tax cuts retroactive to the 1st of the year.

Some people have principles and stand by them. Just because our population is becoming more liberal doesn't mean I have to believe those values are correct. You might wan't to take another look at that cartoon. I think your screen needs cleaning. Or do you believe in raising the debt is a good idea? I kinda think most people don't seem to care about the debt, well atleast those that voted for more of it.

Frankly my fine man, I don't give a rip either way. I will do what I have to do to survive. Until they put a lock on the gate of my place of employment, I'll keep going to work every day and do the best job possible. I have said many times in life and on here. I worry about the things that I have direct control over. If I have no control over it, I don't worry about it. BTW, I heard that in a church sermon a long time ago and have held to it ever since.
