I think most people that have problems (training that is), with a choke chain are not using it properly and/or not using the proper choke chain. I prefer a fine link chain versus a heavy link chain. You can apply MUCH less pressure with a fine link chain and get a better response versus a heavier linked chain. I prefer a Herm Sprenger stainless fine link chain. I believe you can get them upwards to 22" long.
I cannot image how in the world you could physically injure a dog by training it with a choke chain. These injuries that people are posting about, is this first hand knowledge? I have trained professionally for several years training young dogs exclusively. I cannot image putting that much physical pressure on a dog to cause that type of extensive injury with a choke chain....
