Riot (by Ruckus) learning to use the treadmill -GDG (video)

Tonight Mr. Riot decided he would learn how to walk on the treadmill! I slowed my pace as he taught himself how to walk, at first he only walked with his front legs, then he would walk behind me and try to catch and snap at my shoes...by the end of my walk he was keeping up with my pace and at my side, not to shabby for a young guy...great way to wear his arse out!! You can hear him growling in the video...enjoy!

But I do want to comment that you need to be careful with human treadmills and dogs. The walking bed isn't long enough for their stride, unless they are just walking, and it's not good for their front end to go faster with a short, choppy stride.

Barb...not to worry, I was more worried about him causing me to trip and falling into him and hurting us both, he won't be playing on the treadmill as a form of exercise....and we were walking....SLOW at first and then at my pace, which isn't a overly fast walk....can't really run any more thanks to the Army and my hosed up knees.

Not to worry. My friend's labs all love the treadmill and adjust their stride. They are more compact labs as well. The holistic chiro vey had recommended it.

He had a grand time - it sure was a PITA trying to walk without stepping on him, but once he figured it out we were trucking right along! I think we walked a total of 20 minutes (from his first attempt to when I finished)...he was one tired puppy! Of course Bullet would come in and put a paw on the tread and watch it zip by, give me a funny look and do it again....I'm really surprised I didn't end up on one of those "American's Funniest Videos" - got to love young puppies, curious about everything!

Lainee..Beware...I taught my two boys how to walk on the treadmill to help give them some exercise when I can't get them out in the dark this time of year. The problem is now I can't get them off! The youngest one goes ballistic as soon as you turn it on, he wants to do it constantly. The belt on mine is big enough to walk with them but barely, have to be careful they don't trip me! They don't stay on though unless you walk with them or stand next to it, but they have been known to walk a mile or more most nights.....

Yeah I figured I might have created a monster! Figured tonight I'll put up the doggie gate, get my walk in and then let him walk with me for a little bit. I also have the "wide deck" version too - almost enough room for us both!

Unfortunately for Riot he will be heading to boot camp on Saturday...
