Brand of Microchip
I have read the thread on microchipping and decided this was something important for me to do. As I have never have gotten a dog chipped, is there a certain chip brand name I should look?
thanks in advance!

We use AVID chips which are installed by a local vet. I suggest that you use the brand your local vet uses ... in case your dog gets lost locally and is found locally.

I’ve had some bad luck with Avid... migrating... My 2YO’s is in her right arm pit. My dog that passed away a few years ago had his in his chest area.
Our vet uses home again so we have been using this one most recently. They want you to pay an annual fee but its really not needed. Once your dog is registered you don’t have to keep paying... IF the dog gets lost you can call them and update your info and pay at that time. The chip does not stop working b/c you have not paid. I think that it’s a silly thing home again does (or tries to do) but, none the less these chips have been better for us staying put!

I use home again and I implant them in my pups myself. I also have a reader.

Agree with AVID.
Home Again sends you e mails that lead you to believe that if you don't pay the "annual fee" you'll be gone from their system.
In fact the, "annual fee" is actually an upgraded program. Trickery IMO.

I don't register with Home Again. I register with AKC's CARR database.
