Default FC-AFC Pattons Blazen Abby MH (1/31/2004-7/31/2016)

I wanted to take a minute to pay tribute to an awesome dog. Abby (owned by Dan Hurst) had almost 50 all age points in limited trialing, including a win in a 90+ dog open. She was so good in training it made me question whether I was wasting my time competing against her with my dogs!

As good as she was as a competitor, she was even better as a producer. In 3 litters with Creek Robber, she produced offspring totaling 451 derby points which makes her the all time high point dam of derby dogs. Her offspring include NFC-AFC Robber's Stray Bullet, FC Jumpin' Joan Flash, FC Creek Robbers Black Powder Mag, FC Slick When Wet III, Abby's Physician of Antioch (all time high point derby male) and at least 3 more dogs with all age wins. Rest in peace, Abby - may all your marks be flyers.

My condolences to Dan, his family, and everyone that knew Abby.

I told Dan this spring, and I'll repeat it now....Abby was a helluva dog that frankly lived in her offspring's shadows, despite being a consistent all-age finisher. She sat out at least one National Am due to breeding. I always thought she was enough dog to win it all.

The first FT I ever went to was Rose Country in 2009. Didn't know anyone, but watched a guy win the Open with his black female, Dan & Abby. I think that was his first AA win.

I'll never forget we were running up at Sunflower and Abby was the only dog that beat us. But beat us fair and square.

Dan acknowledges that he has been blessed with more than one "once-in-a-lifetime" dog, and to my knowledge, it started with Abby. She was simply great. My condolences.

Abby was far more special than most people know. I always liked her.
