bird dryer idea, what do you think?

Hi Howard,
The outer horizontal boards are 60 inches wide, the inner horizontal boards are 58 1/2 inches wide.
Each leg is 5 feet by 3 5/8 inches by 3/4 inch.
The u shaped holding slot is a 1 inch circle at the bottom, the vertical sides of the 'U' are also 1 inch wide. The total depth from the top of the board to the bottom of the holding circle is 2 inches.
It is about 4 1/4 inches between slots.

From the ground to the bottom of the first horizontal rack is 27 1/2 inches.
From the ground to the bottom of the upper horizontal rack is 49 inches.
The legs are joined 1 7/8 inches from the top of the board by a single 3/8 inch galvanized bolt which allows the legs to fold flat together.

A 21 1/2 inch rope or cable on each side at the level of the lower horizontal rack stabilizes the legs and keeps them from over extending.

The ones John built hold 48 birds.

There are some really nice home made ones posted up. Yours stands out, to me, because of the slot system for hanging birds by the neck rather than the duck bill. It looks as if you can hang pheasants as well as ducks.

I haven't looked thru all of the posts but a quick and easy one that I use is the wire shelving that is seen in a lot of bathroom closets. I took a bolt cutter and cut every other wire. You can shove a birds head thru the slot and turn it 90 degrees.

It's redneck but works for me!

for those that do not know. this is a joke. do not hang birds and drive in any way. at about 45 mph the feathers start to come off, in mass. Drivers in back will worry, kids will cry, police may be called. (no cell phones back then) and when you do pull over and see your naked birds ahanging off the canoe rack. you will be miffed!

Got me to thinking the shelves hanging in the laundry room are exactly what your talking about, My wife is telling me as I type this, dont even think about. Guess I have to go buy another set and hang them out in the garage.

We do this with the parked ATV trailers over night during the trial/test and then use a holding blind over them to keep flies/critters away - then when we show up in the morning, pluck them out and bag them. Also makes it easier to inventory the birds as you hang them - pull out the gross ones and toss.
