Retired marks on water, on land
Background: I'm starting to make some lists about concepts I want to cover... trying to transition from hunt tests to qualifying.
Assuming triples:
Is there one order or placement of a retired mark that is more or most likely on a qualifying on land? On water?

Or perhaps a better question is, is there a certain placement or order or type of retired mark to teach first? Practice most?

Mostly lots of it. Lots of marks where they would be tempted to beach early. Two down the shore is always good. Past points where they would be tempted to beach. Across a cove where they might be tempted to land where the bird boy was but that causes them to hunt on the wrong side of the cove. Marks are better when the wind does not give the bird away if the dog beaches early. Nothing wrong with training on angled in and outs where they are tempted to square an entrance or exit.

I'd suggest retiring the gun, vs retiring the mark.
You should leave the mark where it fell.

For a dog that gives in and does, in fact, beach early, would you handle the dog to keep a good line or allow the dog to "learn" from not finding the bird? If you handle, how does the dog know that it's a "correction" albeit a mild one? Maybe a better question would be how do you TEACH the dog to not to give in to the factor, but to stay in the water, cover, etc.?
