Hi Folks,

I wanted to let you all know about an exciting seminar being held in Kemptville (Ottawa), Ontario - "Transformational Puppy Rearing: Creating Dogs that Enrich People's Lives". This two day workshop with Gayle Watkins, Ph.D. is being held March 2-3, 2013.

This will be a very interesting seminar for breeders, anyone who is contemplating a new puppy, does performance events with their dogs, has temperament tested litters for others or is just plain interested in puppies and how they can be reared and puppy tested from birth to 9 weeks. While Gayle obviously specializes in goldens, she has lots of experience with other breeds. This seminar is not just for golden owners! Please forward this information on to anyone who might be interested.

Here is a recent blog entry by Gayle that will give you a small of taste of what you can expect from attending this seminar as well as more information below. http://www.gaylewatkins.com/breeding-dogs/the-power-of-fifty-six-days/

For complete seminar details, please visit www.ovgrc.org or e-mail me at hiscoke@magma.ca.

Hope to see you there!

Pamela Martin

Dr. Gayle Watkins of Gaylan's Golden Retrievers has actively shown and bred multi-purpose golden retrievers since 1979. Over the past thirty years, she has produced, owned and/or shown over 50 American and Canadian conformation, obedience, agility and tracking champions, as well as Master Hunters and Qualified All-Age field trial goldens. Her breeding program has also produced over a dozen GRCA Outstanding Dams and Sires.

The keys to Gaylan's success are the techniques Gayle has developed to rear litters, evaluate puppies, and match them to homes based on measurable traits. The Gaylan's puppy rearing system is carefully designed, from conception to placement, to bring out the best in every puppy. It mixes science, nature and experience in a balanced blend of mental, physical, and social development opportunities with nutritional support. Furthermore, before pups are placed, they are thoroughly assessed on conformation (structure, type and athleticism), temperament, and working ability using a comprehensive evaluation process that seeks to give every owner the ideal puppy for them and provide them a training plan for their individual puppy.

The seminar will focus on the why, what and how of the ground-breaking system Gayle has developed to bring out the best in puppies. Day 1 will focus on Puppy Rearing from birth to nine weeks. During this session, she will present the many different things she does to raise pups, week by week, emphasizing Weeks 5 through 9 while not ignoring those important early weeks.

In Day 2, Gayle will present her Puppy Evaluation and Matching program. This portion of the seminar will focus on the temperament test that she has developed and uses to evaluate litters, as well as other opportunities she creates to assess puppies. She will also discuss how to use these assessment results to appropriately match puppies to buyers and guide new owners in the training and development of their puppy.

In recent years, Gayle has applied these methods elsewhere by working with breeders of field and show golden retrievers, German shepherds, Labrador retrievers, Irish setters and more.
