adjusting ur dogs back????

i have a buddy who is goin to school to be a chriopractor and he tells me that they adjust dogs and that i should when i have mine. He does it to his dog everytime he goes to the chrio. I laughed at him, but was wondering are there more people out there that do that or is it kinda a bunch a foofy and not needed like i think?

Sure go ahead but first use your X-Ray machine to x-ray the dog so you know where he needs popped....

It does help some dogs with specific problems-but needs to be dome by someone who has experience, understands dog anatomy, and who has talked to the dog's vet so they understand exactly what the problem is. Letting someone adjust your dog who doesn't know what they are doing can do damage-don't do it.

I actually took one of my dogs to a holistic vet (she is a real vet, who practiced typical vet medicine for 20 years before switching to mostly holistic, which includes acupuncture and chiro) last year. The dog was hurting and my regular vet could find nothing wrong. He gave me 'permission' to try the holistic vet, as the pain meds and rest were not doing much good. First visit the dog was thoroughly checked out, then treated w/ acupuncture (and taken off the pain meds). A couple days later he went in for some chiro, with another visit a week later. IMO - made a world of difference and he has been fine since. There was no suggestion of regular adjustments or anything. I would definitely use this holistic vet again, but would NOT use just any chiropractor on my dogs.

I agree. I have used chiropractic medicine performed by a vet with my young FC. It helped his healing tremendously when he was recovering from an injury.

I regularly have my dogs adjusted.....They are athletes and I like to treat them as such. I ask alot of my dogs and if I want them to perform at their best, I do the best for them.

I dont know what the laws are elsewhere....but in Wisconsin Chiropractic cannot be done to any dog by someone who isnt a DVM. I have a local large animal vet who adjusts cows and horses do my dogs on a regular basis.....then I see a dog sports specialist a few times a year. Shes farther of a drive and bit more $$. But my dogs feel great after they are adjusted.

I'll never go to another chiropractor again myself, I am worse off for the experience, why would I subject my dog to it.

I have had my dogs adjusted by a DVM that also does chiro and accupuncture. I always have my girl adjusted after she whelps and any puppies I keep get check out when they are about 12 weeks old. I have also found that it is great for old dogs. It helps keep them comfortable and moving freely. The first dog I ever had this done with was my 11 year old dalmatian about 10 years ago. He had a weak rear and I am convinced that he had about a year and a half of quality time because of the adjustments and accupuncture. Any dog I have had adjusted always lets me know that they feel better after the doctor visit by their body language.
I would also avoid having someone other than a DVM adjust my dogs. They have to know animal anatomy!

I get my dogs worked on by a DVM that has additional training in chiropractic and acupuncture. I think it makes a big difference. I take them on a semi-routine schedule, plus if they have any kind of a crash in the field like misjudging a ditch or something where they have a big stumble or somersault. I would be hesitant to take my dogs to a human chiro that works on dogs.

2 of our 3 dogs get chiro routinely and it helps a bunch.
