Finally Peeing Like a Big Boy

Just thought I'd post this for any curious puppy owners out there.

My lab is 8 mo and is finally lifting his leg to pee. I was starting to get worried that he was going to squat to pee his whole life.

The problem with the squatting was that he would pee all over his front paws then come inside and track pee all through the house...

Now the only problem I see is that he wants to pee on every tree, bush, rock in sight...Still better than tracking pee through the house though...

Yep, the longer they wait the better!.... I had a client dog come in last fall, the guy was so proud that his cherished boy finally started to lift his leg. 10 mo old. Dog came in here- couldnt walk 6 feet without pissing on something. The dog eat , drank and slept PEE.... would not retrieve more than one or two short ones, and had absolutely no interest in a bird.... he was promptly washed out and sent home.
Surely this was not a result of his lifting his leg-but he had no instinct or desire or drive to begin with and then his incessant peeing made it worse....
Glad your guys front feet are now dry.

I read the title of the thread and first thing that come to mind was that Adam Sandler movie Big Daddy. I wasnt excited when my male starting hiking his leg. Before the leg hiking started he would go and be done no stopping to mark in the middle of a retrieve no going on the wheels of my truck or marking the furniture at the vets office, yeah squatting was fine by me

My 6 year old male still stands to pee. Wondered if he was gay or lazy. Actually I am glad he does not hike his leg. I hunt by myself so I don't suffer from embarrasment.

That got me to chuckling, I can relate, kind of hard to tell someone the dog isnt with you when your the only around for 20 miles
