Default Would you breed yellow to chocolate?

If you are a stud owner, would you allow a yellow to chocolate breeding with your stud? Would it make any difference if the chocolate dog did not carry yellow, thereby producing an all black litter?

Just wondering the current thoughts in this. Thanks.

Simple answer - NO. But , that would depend upon the pedigree of the female, who owned her and wanted the breeding, and WHY. Theres a lot of reasons why someone might want to, in order to improve upon what they had- but just a pet person who wanted puppies from a titled male... NOPE, I sure would not....

Only if someone is looking to produce some Dudleys.

There have been a few threads in the past here on RTF regarding Dudleys.

The pet people usually go away as soon as you tell them the litter will be all black. They think they will get yellows and chocolates. You won't produce dudleys unless the chocolate carries yellow. You would get a litter of tri-factored blacks.

If you Breed a Yellow with NO Chcolate factor to a Chocolate with NO yellow factor you will get Black tri- factored pups

If you breed a Yellow with NO Chocolate factor to a Chocolate with yellow factor you will have Black try factored pups and yellow chocolate factored pups

If you breed a Yellow Chocolate factored to a Chocolate with NO yellow factor you get Black tri-factored pups and Chocolate with yellow factor.

If you Breed a Yellow Chocolate factored to a CHocolate with Yellow factor you would get Yellow chocloate factered pups, Black tri- factored pups, Chocolate yellow factored pups, and a couple of Dudleys (no black pigment)

I was thinking of a decently bred, titled female with health clearances who is worthy of being bred. I thought the ideas might have changed since it is much easier and not too costly to test dogs for colors they carry. I would have no problem producing a black tri-factored litter personally.

YES! In fact, I'll be doing a pure yellow to pure chocolate breeding this spring. If you know you coat color genetics, there is NOTHING to worry about! Worse case scenario is a yellow with no pigment. See this chart, it has every color combo possible.

    http://www.blueknightlabs.com/color/coatcolor.html

If you click on the combo you have on the left, on the right on the top, you will get all your possible combos.

My breeding will be all black pups that carry all three colors. You can click on that combo.

Before genetic testing, it was a concern. Now.....no way. Do it. There are other more serious things to worry about.

I dont know anyrhing about breeding dogs but what i can tell you is that the litter my pup came from was from a chocolate male and yellow female. There were four black pups. Three yellow and two chocolates.

I have a chocolate carrying yellow boy who has been bred to two pure yellow bitches for black/yellow litters. Both litters were nice and the yellows have lovely (black) pigment. I have a BYC boy who's produced chocolate pigmented yellows in two litters, they were the first chosen as loving pets. All puppies not retained by the breeders are placed on limited registration, so that's not any issue.

Then yea, thats a different kettle of fish entirely... I cant say yes or no for sure without seeing the female/pedigree/clearances/etc...... that offers too much important information.
