My chocolate girl has a yellow/white streak around her tail and on the small of her back! I forget who said it but basically they said it doesn't affect their retrieving!!!

For those that have bred their dogs that have a white patch somewhere, was it passed along to their pups? I've always been curious about this....and just how/where the white spot comes from because I know of a couple of examples of pups that have it, yet neither parent has any white spots.

HAHAHA! My black male had a big white hair right in between his shoulder blades and yeah, it stuck out like a sore thumb too. It drove my oldest daughter NUTS! She would pluck it out and it would just grow back.
He also had a white patch on his chest that he had all of his short 5 1/2 year life. I figure God marked him for me so I would pick the right pup.
Great way to look at it! It is amazing how well that single white hair will catch yours and everyone elses eye against/or within that little coal black sea of hair.
The white hairs on the tail like what you described are caused by the gland just under them.
