Who do you register a microchip with?

I had an AVID microchip put into my pup yesterday. The vet gave me the packet to register it with AVID. In looking online, there are other organizations that claim to be nationwide universal registration sites. My question is, how do you know who to register the number with? Do you all register with more than one organization or if you register with one group, do the other sites have access to their information? Seems confusing to me.

I had my pup microchipped last weekend. The vet told me that until I registered it only they would be able to see the microchip's info. It was also more expensive than my other dogs, when i looked into there chip it had a lifetime registery where my other dogs expire every year and have to be renewed (i didn't know this and have never renewed them). I will be paying the extra $20 to have there's registered with the same company as my pup. The pup is with petlink and the other two home again, I couldn't even pull my other two labs up.

Home again implies that you need to renew the registration, but that is not accurate. I register all of my dogs and tell my puppy buyers to use the AKC registry.

We use Avid Microchips with our puppies and provide the prepaid registration form for folks to register them with Avid. Since you have an Avid microchip, I would suggest you either use the Avid Registration, or AKC. Avid and Home Again are the two big microchip providers, and have different "numbering schemes" so anyone with experience can tell which chip it is as soon as they see the number. Their first call will be to Avid or Home Again once they know which chip it is to see if it's registered. At the very least, if they call Avid, they will trace the chip number to the purchaser of the chip, even if it's not registered.

I used ResQ and registered with them and also give the chip # to AKC.

Both of my dogs are registered with Home Again...can I also register them with AKC CARR and Avid without causing any "conflicting issues"?

I think I went through this same thing a while back, but just tried to update my info with 24 Pet Watch who my oldest dog was originally registered with after being chipped at a local Pet Fair. They will not change any info without a fee of $18. Needless to say, we have moved a lot and I see no reason for that to change. We live in different areas at different times of the year. I would like to just chip my dogs myself and then register them with the most efficient registry. Then when we move, I would have a contact to get all info for all 3 dogs changed at once. My questions: 1# Where to order. I see AKC Carr mentioned. How do I get them and the equipment to implant? 2# Is there any way to register the existing 24 Pet Watch ID # with AKC and get the info updated. (In other words, does the existing chip do me any good at all?) Please don't give me a hard time about not wanting to pay the $18 fee. That's not the point. I thought a was getting a life time deal, now its not and I have two more dogs to chip and add to a registry. I just need a system that will allow me to change info as needed. Thanks for any ideas.
