Yes this pup has Cosmo in his pedigree and very difficult to work with. Some time ago Randy posted what to do with a dog that was noisy. So I have been following his words of wisdom. No this is not a sight blind? Every time we are out if he is quiet putting the flat collar on, going in the truck, coming out of the truck and walking with me and at the line, he gets 3 different blinds and some stand alone marks. This is a slow process with Cosmo but he has lots of years left. His real name is Yorktons Ironwood Chief and I nicknamed him Cosmo! after I read all about Cosmo.

Just a thought for you.... I learned the hard way not to "Good dog" my high dogs so much. It usually just makes them higher (and this one looks like you just changed his batteries) .... the reward to them is usually the retrieve itself. They might get a quiet "good dog" when after they have made the delivery to hand.

Mary Lynn, Susan brought up some things I thought about when watching, but because of my lack of track record I am hesitant sometimes to make suggestions. As you know, I have one that was and is just like your pup. Though 8 now, he has not slowed down or become a more obedient/team player. If I were where you are now, I do not believe I would ever run a blind without handling at some point. I may be wrong, but I do not think you have to worry about losing momentum with that dog. More important, while he's still young and establishing life long expectations, he needs to learn that on a blind, you and only you call the shots. Maybe blow a sit whistle when he is within 25 yards of the bird and then a simple cast to pick it up. Could pay big dividends down the way to have a set of brakes when he has decided where to go. I also agree about the too enthusiastic praise, just jacks them up more. And it a way, that too lessens your authority. Your reward goes unnoticed because the ultimate reward has already been savored. But....all that and $3.50 will get you a cup of coffee! Enjoy your Cosmo, there is nothing in this world as much fun or as painful as running one like that!

I wouldn't be very worried about the dog not handling on one blind.... If he can line that far out, good for Fido. Mary Lynn can then so set up something with more terrain... obstacles, etc. But, carol, you are right in the respect that we have all seen handlers start to spectate at a field trial because Fido is doing such a great job they don't have to be handled, and their momentum gets so high & fast, they blow past the end, and the handler can't get them back. "Thank you for your entry fee." So, you wouldn't want to make a habit of it (except at a field trial).

It is impressive to see. i will never forget when FC Honor was a mere puppy, going to watch his daddy FC-AFC Teddy's Ebonstar James run at Mid Illinois trial in Victoria Illinois. Tons of terrain on those grounds. Jamie lined a 350 yard land blind that was hilly, with multiple pockets of water.... that blind is so burned into my mind, I could walk it to this day. Thrilling and unbelievable.
