Was reading that this Pope's health was not good even when he was elected. Were the Cardinals, perhaps, thinking that due to his age & health, his reign would be relatively short, and this Pope would be an "interim" compromise?

They had a trial earlier this summer of one of his attendants releasing letters to the media, to show how the pope was being mislead and decieved by those around him. I personally think that had something to do with his reasoning.
I'm not Catholic but my guess based on his most recent public stuff his health is worse than is known or at the least his mobility. I don't think he can do his thing for Easter and so is bowing out now.
