Default Which venue(s) do you compete in?

Just out of curiosity I would like to see what everyone here on RTF competes in. I have ran 1 derby, 1 owner/handler qualifier, a few AKC hunt tests and a bunch of HRC hunt tests. Currently I am a HT guy but who knows what I might be doing in the future.

    Thanks for participating.

I think you need a choice of "I run multiple HT venues". Not that I do, but I bet many do...

Never ran 1, never seen 1, didn't even know about them until about 1.5 years ago. Until I actually met a RTF'er I imagined the games being similar to the Westminster dog show with fetching thrown in.

The poll results may be a bit misleading as it allows multiple choices. I selected AKC Hts and FTs ( 1 & 4 ) but not the option HTs (undefined as to HRC v AKC) and FTs (#5). How many selecetd 1,4 & 5?

I didn't intend for it to be misleading, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed.

    What about "hunting"?
    Isn't that the real venue?

    You posed the question "Compete".
Field Trials are the ONLY venue were one can compete with their retriever. So only one possible answer to your poll.
While many like to think they are, Hunting Tests are not competitions.

Breck is right. Hunting tests are like taking a standardized exam in school. They are only checking to see if the dog can meet or exceed the standard for that level. Field trials are dog against dog, may the best dog that day win.

You really gotta be careful about how high a pedestal you put your method, your accomplishments, your dog on. There's usually someone who's done more, somewhere. And they may have used a different method than you did! Chris Atkinson 2013
