What Are Some Good Dog Charities?

Buy dog food for your local shelter or rescue group. Often rescue homes/temp homes feed the dogs out of their own pocket. Nice to be able to cut down costs of folks who foster dogs.

Two years ago we had a successful training day/fundraiser. The club teamed with a local dog food store and we were able to turn $1,100 in cash into a pallet of canned dog food. This was the biggest request from shelters. Dogs in shelters often won't eat well and the canned food really helps encourage their appetite. Also stores well.

I 2nd the Retriever Freedom. GO on their website and see what they are all about. They supply dogs for wounded service men/women and also for children with autism.

HRC has HRC Foundation, Inc. that gives several scholarships each year to members and/or their children in good standing and a large donation to selected Vet schools for research. People who want to honor their loved ones and their dogs who have passed on want to make donations rather than send flowers. There is a considerable base that draws interest plus the donations received. One might want to consider that route.

I'm all for local, but also have a big respect for labmed.org Donations used to provide medical care and treatment for adoptable labs/lab-mixes to enable them to be placed. Rescues, abandoned, injured, abused. Good grass-roots organization.

Also a big fan of Morris Animal Foundation.
