Rowdy (by Pirate) wind and barrier

This setup was really difficult and Rowdy succumbed to the factors. The distance was 185 yds. There is a strong crosswind right to left. The tree line has a ditch along it with some brush in it that is over the dogs head (barrier).

Rowdy drifted with the wind. Then hit the barrier and started running along it in typical young dog fashion. I hit the buzzer on the tt remote release and Rowdy carried through the barrier and up the hill to the bird.

I don't like to rerun marks but in this case I did. I shortened the distance to about 100 yds. At first it looked like Rowdy might drift with the wind but he recovered and carried through the barrier.

I probably should have run the mark at a shorter distance the first time. We will repeat this concept next week as the tree line must be about 300 yds long.

Wayne really nice area to train in. I was wondering why you hit the buzzer ? Was it to stop him but I did not see a cast? Yes I would have run the smaller distance first, but nice idea to simplify after you ran into trouble. I just wonder if he really saw the duck go down??? I was also trying to think some of the ways we would correct when a dog fades with the wind especially a young dog and simplify was one? Thanks for sharing.

ML, He saw the duck. I had white marking tape tied to the ducks foot because of the background. I hit the buzzer to get his attention back on the gun station. It is like a bird boy saying hey, hey.

He just acted like a young dog seeing this kind of barrier for the first time.

Difficult mark, not only because of the factors you mentioned, but the background you are thowing the bird against..
I would expect a young dog to hunt short, for the first few times they see something like this...

Even with the streamers tied to the bird, do you think the bird was hard to see?

I ran Shadow as test dog to make sure the bird was visable. But it was a very difficult test for a young dog.
