I think me and my HRCH lab could give them a run for their money IF we began the race by leaving from a holding and finished by running to a bucket

What do these folks do when they aren't racing to earn the money it takes to keep all these dogs up? Looks like feeding them would be a full time job that doesn't pay very well. Is there a market for trained mushing dogs and if so, what kind of $$ are we talking about?

The other night I watched a television show titled "Yukon Men"and there was a fellow with sled dogs and he was catching TONS of fish to feed his dogs.

The very top mushers have sponsors (cabelas etc...) Very few of them make a living mushing. Maybe the top 10-20% at best. I have been gone from Alaska for a while now, but still have a son, stepson and some grandkids up there and follow it pretty close. Some of the top dogs and their pups will sell for big money... Can't give you a specific figure, but dollar amounts that would not surprise a big time lab trainer...

Howard might be able to drop some recent numbers on us or maybe some of the Fairbanks folks who are tuned into the mushing scene would know...

Why didn't you get some photos of the ACTUAL start? Dogs pulling, snow flying, etc.
