Thumbs up hail call to Mr Atkinson......

Chris I have been seeing a bunch of posts talking about puppy behavior. Would you post the article you wrote on CRATE TRAINING as a sticky. I still have my copy that I have used on 14 pups but did not want to post without asking you........Otey

Otey, it is on the RTF homepage at http://www.retrievertraining.net

    Here's a link to it:

I probably would skip the gun shooting while they eat for many dogs, but would still perhaps do it in the future. I've found recently that a distant gunshot from a gunner throwing a mark works nicely once the dogs love to fetch!

We also have the puppy out and about when training older dogs, so they are exposed to the gunner station popper sounds pretty much from the get go....once they are retrieving they know what that sound means...have NEVER introduced gun shoots while a puppy/dog was eating, have never had to because of the way I introduce a puppy to the sight and sounds of field work....no gun shy dogs in my pack.
