I don't know where this malarkey comes from about scientists lieing and cheating just to prove a point. It seems to have currency in some religious venues. While it is true that scientists can error (they put their pants on just like everyone else) the system has a number of safeguards built in it to screen out sloppy research or fraud.

First, as a scientist, your study must be reviewed by your peers. The study is sent out to independent reviewers before it reaches that the next stage--a review by the state or national academy of science. The paper is then published in the appropriate journals. That opens the door for someone attempt replication of your research. Errors are not helpful to one's career. Fraud is doom when caught. Remember cold fusion? it was killed by failure of subsequent efforts to replicate the results, thus ending the careers of those who published the first results.

The recalls are usually substantiated by empirical evidence, ie. scientific study when contrary results are observed. No company is going to recall millions of dollars of goods without some scientific basis.

If you don't believe in science, then don't ask the surgeon to scrub for your operation after he treated he did bowel surgery on the guy before you. After all, science has this theory about disease transmission and they are just selling out to the soap companies.

It would be nice were that true. One only has to look to the ongoing fiasco that is called climate change or the book "Silent Spring" to see science being improperly applied .

Stan, they great thing about most western religion is it doesn"t take itself so seriously that it cannot appreciate a bit of humor.

Try to remember that when folks are depicting our POTUS or other religious figures in a less than respectful manner, to recognize a modicum of decorum before you post.

( and FWIW, after reading up on Pope Francis I, he would prolly chuckle at the image of Tebow. )
