    Default Lab in a Tree

My dad cut this dead tree down the other day and look what was in it. He saved a couple pieces for my brother and I.
Weird thing is, this River Birch used to provide some shade over the kennel for my first lab.

I thought it was pretty cool and am now trying to find a way to display it at home.

Wonder if there is a way to save that by sealing it before it fades? I know when it is green there is moisture in the wood... Just wonder if the pattern will fade as the moisture dissipates? Hope not, that's cool!

Although, you say it's dead... Maybe it's pretty dry?

Yeah, it's pretty dry. I don't think it will fade. It's spalted and sap stain marks that produced the image I believe.
The rough cut adds to the character and may be hard to seal.

What are the odds you would find something shaped like a lab? Pretty neat.

How do you know it's not a Chessie?
I know enough, I just can't think of most of it.

Awesome....think you should put a name plate on it with the name of your lab that it shaded....
