The Open began with a triple with two retired on steep, hilly terrain. Long bird in the middle was throw first thrown right to left down on the side of a hill. The second bird thrown was on the right thrown right to left and landing behind the base of a slope of a hill. The flyer was on the left also thrown right to left and landing in or on the slope of a valley. There were a couple of breaks and some dogs got lost. Of the 33 running (one scratch), 24 were called back.

The land blind was run from behind the marks generally toward the original line. There were two points of land to cross and then push up a hill to a bush nearly at the crest. A gunner sat hidden between the two points. Most dogs did fine but a couple got lost over the crest of the hill at the end and there was one pickup. Twenty dogs were called back.

The water blind crossed a bay with a big water swim to the end of a stand of tules. A poison bird was thrown down the shore along the curve of the bay about 2/3 of the way to the blind. There were at least two paths leading out of the water and into the tules near the end of the blind that were enticing to some dogs as was the poison bird. Callbacks to the 4th series tomorrow (14 dogs):

1,5,6,8,10,12,14,19,24,26,30,32,33,34

Starts with dog #5.

The Amateur began with a triple with two retired in the sagebrush. The long bird in the center went down first thrown right to left from the end of a plateau down to the base in some sage. The short retired on the right was then thrown right to left from a hillside down into an open area.surrounded by sage. The flyer was short and on the left shot right to left. There was lots of sage to punch through or run around on the way to all marks. Of the 28 that started (two scratches), 18 were called back.

1,2,3,5,6,9,10,12,14,15,19,20,21,22,24,27,28,29

The line to the land blind was just off the end of the flyer, ending in a tiny slot of sage. While on line to the blind, the test dog disappeared behind some sage about a third of the way to the blind and reappeared way left. So there were some challenges enroute. I understand that 15 were called back to the water blind but I don't have the numbers. They were running the water blind late this afternoon.

The Derby ran two series today. One land double and one water double. All dogs were called back to the 3rd series tomorrow.
