We have been using Iverhart for years and have been very pleased. God willing, fingers crossed, and knocking on wood that it continues to keep em clear!

Heartgard Plus. Newer thing to the market is the Trifexis and it'll knock out your fleas in addition to the intestinal parasites and hearworms.... no tick coverage though.

If you go with Sentinel, what do you do about ticks?

I have thought about Sentinel and Advantix. Maybe a little overkill (npi). I have heard the Sentinel and Advantix kills fleas differently. i.e. sentinel is like birthcontrol for fleas and Advantix just kills active fleas.

Maybe Dr Ed can clear this up.

Sentinel is milbemycin (Intereceptor) plus lufenuron (Program). Lufenuron impairs the fleas ability to synthesize chitin which is the substance that forms the flea eggshell and provides the outer protective skeleton for larval and adult fleas hence the flea birth control analogy.

There are many good products to control ticks, for me the Preventic collar with amitraz as the active ingredient is my choice.

I use the apple horse paste made by Durvet. Simple and easy $4 for the whole year. One click per month.

Doc have you seen any problems come out of that product in relation to the amitraz? I know Promeris had amitraz in it and it caused some problems with scaulding, it was a topical though. Just my own curiosity
