    Default South Florida

Moving to south Florida ( ft lauderdale) for medical school this summer. I am very excited except for the fact my lab will be stuck living in a apartment for one year rather than big back yard like she has now.

I know duck hunting can be great down there at times, but hunting with retrievers will be limited. I assume my best option to keep the dog on her game is to get involved in a retriever club which I have never done before. Are there any good ones in the area . My dog has retrieved many ducks in Arkansas and south Carolina but the retriever club scene would be new for us.

Treasure Coast RC is in Okeechobee and is the south Florida club. Most of our member are in the Stuart area, but many are as far down as Miami. We have monthly training on some of the nicest grounds you will find anywhere.
We have. Hunt test this coming weekend, but I assume you are not yet in Florida.

We are very slow In July. We do have a "training day" in July but with temps in the upper 90's and afternoon thunder storms it is not much of a training day. August is the same, but we are getting in he HT mode. Come September we are back in full action.
Send me an email and I can put you on the email list and get you all the information you need. You do have to be a club member to train for liability reasons, but membership is cheap. $35 annual dues. You are welcome to come as a guest once, but the property owner insist on members only.

I'm assuming you'll be at Nova - so in Broward County. They allow dogs on leash but if you sneak on early or late, avoid crowded areas/weekends - you can get some training in off lead. That's basically where I do most of my training unless there's club training near Okeechobee (I'm a member of Treasure Coast too). If you are living in the Nova area then you are not far from Markham Park.

We're always glad to see new faces at Treasure Coast. As Corey said, you have to join but it's well worth the $35. Nice folks, beautiful land.
