Default It's been a long time, but I'm back at it.......

So I haven't been here in a long time. Chris has been so kind to help me get logged back in. I used to hang out here a long time ago with Joe S. and the likes. As luck would have it, the little black bas....furball I was lucky enough to get from Joe S. has been retired. The Tiger dawg is now on the couch living the good like. I picked up my latest project, a yellow pup named Rizzo. It was then that I realized how much I missed really working with a dog. So here I am, brushing up on training stuff, finding all my Lardy materials and looking for anything new.

Rizzo is now 14 weeks and a retrieving machine. He's been exposed to all kinds of stuff, birds, water, parking lots, dog parks, kennels, crates, cars, trucks etc. He's Crate trained, sits at the door when he needs to go out. Walks on a leash, doesn't heel yet, but is a pleasure to walk for a pup. Working on sit. Possibly the smartest dog out of the five labs I've owned. Planning on starting formal obedience between 20 and 24 weeks but will probably sneak some in along the way. Right now everything I do is working on building desire. I've had both types of dogs, the no real desire dog and the fire breathing over the top dog. I think this one will be right in the middle.

I'm doing my best to not go too fast even if my pupil is raring to go. Not sure I'll hunt test just cause I don't have time, but I may.

I'm looking at some remote launchers, I have an old BB derby double and from what I understand can get a decent price on an upgrade. Is there anything better out there? Tips? Suggestions? Shameless plugs?

Hope to spend some time here and it's great to be back!!

Chris....thanks for letting me back in. Joe S...are you out there????

I remember you, Kurt. Or at least your name. And I don't associate anything unpleasant with it.

So you're alright by me! Welcome back.

Welcome back. Don't you fly choppers?

You really gotta be careful about how high a pedestal you put your method, your accomplishments, your dog on. There's usually someone who's done more, somewhere. And they may have used a different method than you did! Chris Atkinson 2013

I do believe Kurt was a Chopper operator.

    Kurt, welcome back!

yes I did fly choppers. Still do. Retired from the Army in 06 and have been flying Medical Helicopters ever since....after a small stop in the corporate helicopter world.

    Thanks for the kind words!!

FOM...I loved seeing your signature line with Flash on it. I got Sam around the same time and he made it to Jan 12. I was just able to get over him enough to get a new yellow....lol

I stopped serious training when Tiger got his HR title and we were ready to move up to finished. Oldest son was getting serious into baseball and I gave up dog training and golf at the same time. Tiger did well on cruise control the next 8 years or so as an excellent hunting dog.

My son now coaches baseball at a JUCO, ranked #2 in the nation....(shameless plug for Crowder Junior College)

I picked up my own ducks last year because Ty is stone cold deaf and has arthritis in his elbow that makes it the size of a baseball. I didn't like it.

So here I am. Happy to be back at it.

I was actually a part of Southwest Missouri Retriever Club way back when with Nelson, Ron, Deb and too many others to name. I'm in Springfield. I'd be interested getting back into it at some point but I'm working this Saturday.
