My 11 month old pup is doing his pile work and he just zooms out and comes right back, no shopping. Today I took him to the river for a training day. I also took my female 3 year old. I planned on letting him honor my girl which he did pretty well. A couple of mess ups, but for a first time he did well. His turn came up for a thrown single and he just kind of tip toed out and lazily went in got the bumper and brought it back. His water entry was terrible for the rest of the outing. Just lazy. All my dogs including his mom have a great no nonsense straight in water entry. Its not his first time for water training and I know he's not afraid of water he swims like a fish. If he'll get to it..
How do I get him to get moving? I want that nice big jump and splash entry. Not sure if I'm asking to much of him right now. The river comes out of a dam about two miles up from where I train. so it's pretty much the same temperature all year round probably high 50s but it's what I have to work with, outside air was high 60s to 70s. He hasn't gotten to water force yet. On his second throw he swam the whole way across which was at least 100 yards. Unfortunately he missed the bumper because of the current and handler error.
